Hi, let me introduce myself, I'm Debbie and I am originally from New Zealand. I have been living in the Netherlands now for 18 years. I work in Finance, which is challenging and demands long hours, I always balanced this with active sports, such as hiking, cycling, running & tennis.
After struggling for many years with health issues and recurring sporting injuries, I decided it was time to look into nutrition and alternative sports.
I had been introduced to yoga in 2005 and even though I didn't expect it would be for me, I loved it, yet was never able to sustain a regular practice due to other commitments. The passion to pursue yoga and to understand how it worked, had stayed with me, and was reawakened while on holiday in Bali. At the beginning of 2013, thanks to Absolute Yoga Studios in Amsterdam I was able to start a regular committed practice and graduated as a Hot Yoga teacher in Nov 2013.
Yoga makes you feel amazing, and I needed to know why, which is why I chose to become a teacher and I want to be able to pass this amazing experience on to you. I have been providing 60 min lessons to my colleagues during the lunch breaks since Sept 2013. I also teach at Daandasana studio in Zandvoort since 2015. It's so rewarding to hear feedback on how great everyone is feeling after class.
Yoga renews your energy & reduces stress. As you move in and out of the yoga postures (called asanas), you compress major organs in your body flushing old blood and toxins out, allowing new fresh oxygenated blood to flow in. Stretching triggers the release of endorphins, which creates the sense of relaxation after yoga practice. Yoga makes you stronger and more flexible, and reawakens key muscles in your body.
In stressful situations we breath rapidly and tense our bodies, and this activates our flight or fight response, increasing blood pressure. Staying in fight or flight mode continually, leads to adrenal fatigue and many related health issues. During yoga you breath in and out evenly through your nose. This calming of the breath, calms your thoughts and lowers your blood pressure. You learn to apply this breathing when balancing in difficult postures and this helps you to maintain this calmness in daily stressful situations.
My goal is to bring you to optimal health, so that you can fulfill all your goals in life.
I am continuing to deepen my own practice and am currently studying a 9mth online Yoga Anatomy Course with Leslie Kaminoff.
